Having been involved in fitness all my life but never being competitive, I was fascinated to learn how simple it is to stay in shape without entering the world of the gym fanatic or elite athlete. So after 17 years running classes and managing the swimming school at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre, I decided it was time to do something that would give me an even greater sense of achievement and job satisfaction.
I studied the mechanics of exercise versus shape and began to understand why so many people who have exercise routines that sometimes seem excessive, never see a change in their shape.
Phrases such as “Eat less, move more” could give you an image of diets and high intensity cardio workouts, whereas the reality is, swap a few things in your diet and walking instead of driving would certainly be a great start.
With that in mind Tessfit was born!
As soon as I qualified as a fitness instructor I devised and started delivering classes which I christened, Body Logic. This name best describes the focus that I use when preparing every class. Life is too short to be working hard for little result! I prefer to ensure that each exercise is working on your shape in the most efficient way without causing distress to joints or blood pressure.
Qualifying as a Circuits Instructor has enabled me to incorporate small circuits, which cause all sorts of grunts and giggles!
I have also been studying the Pilates method which is fascinating, in part because the advanced exercises are nearly impossible! I realised quickly that perfection in this would take more dedication and time than I had, so again I needed a logical approach to best deliver this style of class.
With that in mind PilaTess was born!
These classes are for those who want to achieve better balance, great core strength and stability but still get that energy from good music and motivational workouts.
The Diploma I gained in Nutrition and Weight Management is probably the qualification I found the most satisfying. After years of confusion it was comforting to understand that common sense really is the answer! I thoroughly enjoy imparting this and many other important pieces of information to anyone who wants to unravel the mysteries of this complex subject. It is during Personal Training sessions that this is usually tackled.
I have my own public liability insurance for peace of mind although health & safety has been part of my working life for as long as I can remember.
The phrase ‘people person’ really sums me up and this fortunate asset has enabled me to follow my dreams.
I have just been on Tess’ nutrition & weight management course and found it very beneficial and informative. I have lost 1 stone in weight and feel much healthier. I also feel motivated to continue in this way.
I would describe this course as an investment into making a lifestyle change without completely changing your life!!, I have never felt as if I am on a diet, Tess has encouraged me to look at the choices I was making and to make changes where needed, I have also been going to her Pilatess and Body Logic classes which I love, (never thought I’d say I love an exercise class) they are inclusive and not at all intimidating.
My husband and daughter are now attending her Pilatess class as well! Tess has inspired me. I would highly recommend!!!

- Having 1-1 with Tess made the sessions more personal
- I enjoyed all aspects and was happy that Tess also included some personal training in the course

Feeling fantastic!! Been working with Tess Irons
with her body logic classes and this week did 1-1 on Nutrition and this afternoon 1 hour personal training. This woman is wonderful! I feel exhausted but feel like i could run a marathon all at once. She takes time even in classes of 12 which are so affordable to help you get what you want out of them, I felt like my legs were going to drop off doing those burpies & scissors but Tess kept me going with her huge smile a…nd her even bigger positive personality to just do those 3 more reps. I am so excited to get my work out set for home so i can exercise much more. I feel better, i’m sleeping great, i’m eating better yet more food which i’m loving, my stress levels are lower, i don’t ‘snap’ as much over stuff at home or work and most of all i really feel like i am going to be able get the body i want and be as fit & healthy as i want long before 2015 is out. If anyone is wanting a PT or a relaxed, fun & affordable fitness class look absolutely no further than Tess heart emoticon. This course exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed the sessions and learning about food management. the course was a good length and I learnt a lot about nutrition and exercise.

Since becoming a mum, I have wanted for a long time to improve my shape and increase my core strength. Between work and the children, I never have chance to attend a regular fitness class. My friend and I heard about Tess and plucked up the courage to ask her whether she could come to one of houses – at a time to suit us. We were delighted when she said yes – our own personal trainer! We meet fortnightly and have core strength ‘homework’ to do. I am noticing a difference in my body shape already. The price is reasonable, the sessions are always fun and I am finally doing something about my ‘mummy tummy’. Thank you Tess.

It seemed a joke that a wreck like me with a permanently broken pelvis, an arthritic spine etc could go to a Fitness class! But TessFit has made an amazing difference to me. I can’t quite believe what I can do now that I couldn’t before. Even more amazingly, because Tess is such a charismatic teacher, introduces so much variety, adapts some exercises for me and chooses such good music, I really enjoy it!!
I am nearly 60yrs old and have been going regularly to Tessfit having not done any exercise for the last 15+ years and have found it great. The hour goes so quickly and the choice of music is great.
