Walking – Fun, Free & Joint-Friendly
The new workout for body & mind? Absolutely.
The benefits of walking are well documented but some are less obvious than others. Did you know that it can help improve your memory? You may never have to wonder where you parked your car again!
There is a great calorie burn result simply by walking at a pace that gets you a little out of breath but importantly, allows you to carry on chatting.
Walking is right up there alongside swimming, cycling and running when it comes to health benefits.
Get the most out of your walking
Shrug Your Shoulders
Do this before you set off – as they fall, push them back slightly. This relieves tension and promotes good arm motion while walking. You will also look taller and slimmer.
Tuck Your Bum In
Tilt your hips slightly forward to prevent arching your back which can cause back pain.
Don’t look Down
Peering at your shoes puts strain on your neck & back. and will not lift your spirits. We live in a beautiful country, make sure you let it put a smile on your face.
Draw in your Stomach
Engaging your core muscles works the abs, such a simple way to exercise.
Ensure Your Heels Land First
This will keep the stress out of your knees and give you a more powerful push off to enable a faster stride.

What better reason to walk?
Now get out there and let me know how much you are loving it!
Thank you so much for this! I have never been a fan of jogging Instead, I walk with my dog early in the morning for an hour and a half until the sun shines. Since I’m also following the Ketogenic diet, I can’t do high-intensity workouts. I never thought there was a wrong way to do walking tho. This is new to me. Thanks again!
Hi Yang, I am so pleased you found the blog interesting and I love the idea of walking until the sun shines 🙂 It might be an idea to read the blog ‘Why I am allergic to diets’ for an insight into a more sustainable way of eating…..!
Have a great day and I hope the sun is shining on you. Tess
