My Health & Fitness Business – The Journey so far
When I first started to write my blogs I had very little idea about how to do it. I have always enjoyed writing so I gave it a go and produced what my brother-in-law kindly pointed out to be “very amusing but completely pointless” blogs! I think that is where my research really began.
Having always had a fairly low opinion of my academic capabilities, (an opinion shared by my exasperated teachers) I have relied heavily on common sense and instinct to get me through. It has therefore been surprising not only to me but all those who know me that I have managed to study, qualify and grow to love learning as I never have before.
I won’t bore anyone with ‘my’ journey as I realise that would be ‘pointless’ – you see I have learnt a lot! It is the Tessfit journey that is so interesting.
Early on I was told I needed a USP so I bought a memory stick and my steep learning curve had begun.
A Unique Selling Point – I never thought of one it just developed. I knew what type of client I wanted to work with and I knew what I could offer, but was that unique? I had no idea.
Classes – I knew there would be clients who could do some moves better than me but I wanted to show that exercise can be fun and you don’t need to be brilliant at it, just look at me! What I hadn’t anticipated was the amount of fun I was going to have. I love the fact that no matter what the class is there will always be a huge variance in ability and yet everyone fits in beautifully. The laughter makes my day every single time.
Personal Training – This was an area that I never thought would work in my business. I gave it a go because I had been through all the training and thought there may be some people just like I used to be that needed some guidance and motivation. Body Builders step aside, I like to look at you but have no interest in that type of training! As time passed, once again I found that Tessfit was attracting Tess-like people and I now get an immense amount of satisfaction from every 1-1 session that I deliver. My able bodied and disabled clients all have unique qualities and personalities. If we don’t laugh then the session has gone horribly wrong!
Nutrition & Weight Management – This has turned out to be the most fascinating service that I offer. After qualifying and preparing a fairly generic course I quickly learned that everyone without exception not only needed me to give them information and ideas but more importantly they needed me to listen. Fortunately I am good at that! I now deliver what is relevant to each individual and enjoy the relationship that develops between us immensely.
So what was my USP that got Tessfit to where it is today? It turns out that its me! All I had to do was what I had always done, just be myself. That has attracted a host of clients that could not be more perfect. We are a team and one that is growing all the time.
I hope this blog has not been pointless, or worse, self-indulgent. I just want everyone who reads it to feel inspired to follow their dreams and know that what I have achieved gives me pleasure every single day.
